The narrator doesn’t help this book any, but there’s several issues I have with the writing to begin with. the overall story isn’t bad, but it’s certainly nothing special. if you’re not picky about prose or plot and are a fantasy fan this may still be a good series for you, but I DNF’d about a quarter of the way into the second book after thinking I really shouldn’t continue from the first one, but gave it a try anyhow. in the first book I really thought it was more the narrator that was the problem but the second book has a few things that have really stood out to me in the writing that I didn’t like.
