The premise of the book was worthwhile. However, the prose was over the top and the text was poorly edited.

It was highly repetitive and unnecessarily so. It dragged on and on with the anguished scientists reciting the same facts and being reluctant to draw conclusions, which was resolved at one point, and then reverted back to uncertainty. The story was inconsistent, repeating specific phrases, and citing Professor X’s career variously as 30 years and sometimes 20.

For the audio version, the narrator rushed the lines at times and was barely understandable. I had to rewind to listen again to discern what was articulated.

Obviously, given the ending of the book, the author intended to write at least one sequel. However, the readers’ fatigue with this book makes it unlikely to pursue reading the next book.
