Micah pairs a genius incubus with a demon assistant who quickly realizes that patience and proximity are a dangerous combination, and Masters wrings considerable comedy from two characters who are both developing feelings and both completely failing to say so. The workplace dynamic is the series’ strongest structural asset here; Cam’s fixation on solving the magical puzzle left over from Asher and his growing attachment to Micah are amusingly entangled, as though he can’t quite separate the two problems. The romance is lighter and more overtly playful than Asher’s, which suits the characters but occasionally softens the emotional stakes just before they could land hardest. A warm, genuinely funny installment that keeps the series moving with charm and specificity.
