Tl;dr The author wrote the protagonists with depth of character, but any “liberal democrat” was portrayed as a one dimensional twit.

It’s hard to review this book.

The main female characters were strong and resilient. The protagonists’ actions were reasonable and level headed, and the situations plausible. BUT, literally every “liberal democrat” was painted as a caricature. They were whiny, easily offended, and of stunted IQ.

I love the genre, and this is a good example of an TEOTWAWKI book. I’d just like to say to anyone reading this, I am a Democrat. I also own guns and have about three weeks worth of supplies for my family. It’s not much, but it’s what I can afford. I would defend my home and friends.

I think making caricatures of each other deepens a fictional divide between Republicans and Democrats. We have differences of opinion, yes, but thinking differently doesnt make either one automatically retarded. I wish the author had used his talent in fiction to explore the differences, rather than turn his characters into political cartoons instead.
