So the best thing about this book, narration. it was great. the story line was fun and good until the ending. You know the drill, awesome kick ass girl goes to training academy, gets noticed by hottest guys there, you know, predictable until all the rejections. So basically the female lead, Avery, is Jolie/Mave 2.0. Am I surprised, the female lead is tall, beautiful, and blond, nope. If you have read this authors past work, then you know her formula, it starts out the same, the journey to the school, the sidekick brother who is very openly sexual and weirdly too involved in the female leads boring sex life, because of course it’s boring, it has to be or she wouldn’t be uber special. insert eyeroll. there is the requisite mean girl drama which is incredibly outdated and their only purpose is to help show how uber special the female lead is once again. The guys all want to do her, everywhere she goes, when you get to some spice, its really cringey. anyways, you have to wait to the end to find out what kind of beast Avery is, and the idiots that are the male leads, who rejected her and paraded their OW in front of her, realize their mistake and now want her. There is hefty does of misogyny in this book, but not too worry it continues in book 2. Since the second book is not on audible yet, I read it via kindle, and sadly I dnf’d. The author promised grovel based on the behavior of the male leads in this book and it didn’t. They weren’t sorry, they were entitled. The authors version of grovel doesn’t meet the criteria of the dictionary definition, it was whining, pining and forced proximity at a stupid summer camp which was dumb and ultimately just so boring along with more misogyny and a hefty does of gaslighting. So I won’t be continuing the series. 2 overall disappointed stars and no stars at all for the second book. I’m just really glad I waste a credit on book 2. It’s really too bad, this series had potential.
