I’ve had this series recommended to me multiple times by people who say it’s hilarious. The Audible summary says it’s got “perfectly balanced humor”. Apparently that means one-to-one humor and horror.
Some of the monsters in the dungeon are normal people who the aliens shoved into enemy roles. Carl has to fight and kill them. It’s got over the top commentary since it’s a gladiatorial game show, but that isn’t portrayed in a cartoony or detached way. A fairly early battle depicts a frightened person getting killed in some detail *by the protagonists* while begging for mercy.
The narrator is pretty fun, but the exposition is very ham-fisted before we really get anywhere, and then the first battle made me feel so sick I couldn’t continue.
I recognize the commentary aspect, I guess, but I’m not a horror reader. I didn’t come here for this. SOMEONE needs to warn future readers.
