I really wanted to like this novel, especially after it was suggested to me after reading and thoroughly enjoying novels in the caliber of Andy Weir’s The Martian and Project Hail Mary. Dinniman’s novel got off to a decent start, but, as the plot progressed, the narrative precipitately descended into a vast (and, in my opinion, mostly unnecessary) use of ethnic stereotypes and expletives that did not achieve much—other than making my skin crawl (pun intended) upon their increasingly reiterative occurrences. With 9+ hours left to go, I gave up. Call me old-fashioned, but this type of novel is not what I want to listen to for entertainment.
