Audible has some fantastic options for true crime, many of which provide hours of riveting entertainment. Whether you are looking for well researched work on Bundy, Keyes, or any other intriguing villain, there are option galore. Although the story of Thomas Luther is indeed something to behold, because of the rough narration style and often unnecessarily drawn out prose, this is a difficult book to get through. I committed to finishing this listen two weeks ago, and on two occasions, I walked away from the product. I kept coming back because there was a level of curiosity peaked by the story, but the gruff, gravely, corse voice of the narrator was cringeworthy. Aside from the monotone reader who sounds like the late Ed Asner, there are some long, drawn out courtroom scenes that recount word for word what was already covered in previous portions of the book. It is difficult to differentiate between who the peripheral characters are because they are painted so similarly by the author. Simply insert rough thug here. Although Luther is a disgusting and deplorable human being who deserved the death penalty, someone needs to put this recording in a gas chamber and pull the lever.
