Massive fan of DCC and of Baldrees Legends & Lattes series, so I was dripping with anticipation at this mashup. The story, world building, overall plot, just absolutely spectacular. Another fantastic serving from Dinniman! And then it all goes sideways in the narration. Baldrees delivery made absolutely everything feel slow, dry and bland. It works for the initial few chapters. Its gives to the feeling of dustbowl 1930s farm territory of the central US. And then the second the action starts, the narration remains slow and dry. Baldrees style of narration is fit to a slower story, his writings about orcs running small businesses in a retirement stage of life. It doesnt fit global genocide and resistance warriors.
