I didn’t know what I was getting into with this series when I bought it on sale, but the reviews are incredible. First, my biggest gripes – Christians in this book go to Bible study, pray, and justify murdering people who work for the evil government. They all have thousands of dollars saved to buy up precious metals and goods. Oh, and all the guns and ammo they can carry. They do nothing to evangelize the lost or help the poor. We really don’t even know if the people they break out of the government holding facility are actually innocent or if the government is actually evil in any meaningful way. It’s like they all said “We’ll, the government is treating us like criminals, so let’s start a domestic terrorism cell.” seriously, wtf?! Then there’s the classic anti-Catholic thing toward the end of the series. The characters don’t have a lot of depth. I kept wondering if this was a satire of American evangelicalism or not, because guns and family were by far the most important topics in the series. I guess I expected much better from a series with great reviews, but apparently this wasn’t my cup of tea.
