The author needs to do some basic research, if he’s going to have a character be a former service member. As an Army veteran, it takes me completely out of the story, when the author seems to think that Marines and Soldiers are the same thing and uses the terms interchangeably throughout the story, when describing the same guy. Is he a Marine or a Soldier? They are completely different things, with separate traditions and entirely separate cultures.
Also a former serviceman, accused of war crimes, will not be sent to a prison that houses civilian prisoners. I know it’s a science fiction novel, but it’s still annoying.
