The story of the life of Sybil Van Antwerp is masterfully told in this book by Virginia Evans. Sybil initially seems like a bitter, crusty old lady who wants to give everyone she interacts with unwanted and often unwelcomed advice through a series of letters and e-mails. She is opinionated and sometimes biting in her commentary but over time, the people that she loves and love her come to soften this brittle exterior to reveal a much more interesting and lovable person. A real metamorphosis for a one-of-a-kind lady with a fascinating back story. The multiple narrators do an excellent job of capturing Sybil but also her wide range of family, friends, neighbors, a university professor and several customer service agents! The exchanges with customer service are laugh out loud funny.
