If you are looking for a book about the zombie apocalypse, the world post nuclear war, or after an EMP attack, then this isn’t the book for you. But if you are looking for a thoroughly enjoyable, personal story of a prepper that features engaging, fleshed out characters, then go ahead and grab this book. The book isn’t high on action, but it’s damn entertaining. This is the first book I’ve experienced by Mr. Craven and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. He has a great style. He manages to make everyday ‘routine’ actions engaging, which is something that not a lot of writers can pull off. In way it reminds me of how Stephen King can spend time detailing ‘mundane’ life in a way that has you glued to the page. Please don’t take that to mean this book is in anyway mundane. That is probably ….not not probably, that is definitely the wrong word, perhaps I’d be better off saying he has a way of making ‘realistic’ everyday world type scenarios interesting. As I said, I enjoyed immensely and I will definitely be checking out more of Craven’s work.

Now another reason I enjoyed this work as much as I did definitely has quite a bit to do with the narrator, Kevin Pierce. I must say he is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. He voice is quite distinct and his delivery is great. And like two of my other favorite narrators (Luke Daniels/ Nick Podehl) I think I am more likely to check out a book by an author I’m unfamiliar with if I see he is the narrator.
