I’ll admit, hearing that Jane Fonda was being considered for the movie adaptation initially made me hesitate to pick up The Correspondent. I’m glad I didn’t let that stop me for long, because this turned out to be a beautifully reflective story about coming to terms with one’s life, regrets, and relationships. The narration was wonderfully done, and the choice to tell the story entirely through correspondence gave it a uniquely intimate and refreshing feel. It felt less like reading a novel and more like quietly opening a box of someone’s most meaningful letters.
