Five stars isn’t enough for the absolute rollercoaster that is The Butcher’s Masquerade. This series is a masterclass in the ‘expect the unexpected’, just when I think I have the floor figured out, the rug is pulled out in the most visceral way possible.
As a gamer, I absolutely love the DNA of this series. The nods to everything from the high-stakes survival of Last Shelter to the mechanics of World of Warcraft and Eve Online make the world feel incredibly lived-in and authentic. It captures that ‘one more level’ addiction perfectly while raising the stakes to a terrifying degree.
Once again, Jeff Hays delivers a powerhouse performance that sets the gold standard for audiobooks. If you aren’t listening to this series, you are missing out on a cultural phenomenon. Glurp Glurp!
