I listened to Operation Bounce House by Operation Bounce House on Audible after finishing Dungeon Crawler Carl, and the comparison honestly hurt this one a bit. It’s still entertaining, still weird in the very “Matt Dinniman” way, and it absolutely has moments that work. But compared to Dungeon Crawler Carl, this felt more middling than memorable.

The narration was okay at best. Not terrible, but lacking the energy, personality, and timing that made Dungeon Crawler Carl feel alive. A lot of the humor landed flatter here because of it. The book still has Dinniman’s style and absurdity, but the delivery never really elevated the material.

The characters had decent depth, but most of them felt rushed. There were glimpses of stronger development and emotional weight, but the story moved too quickly to really let those moments breathe. The overall premise — AI versus humanity, with tribalism and genetic divergence driving fear and attempted genocide — was interesting conceptually, but it took too long to fully come together. By the time the broader themes started paying off, the pacing had already dragged in places.

Overall, I enjoyed it enough to finish it, and it was engaging throughout, but it never reached the sharpness, humor, or character chemistry of Dungeon Crawler Carl. If you go in expecting that same level, this one will probably feel flat by comparison.
