Not a perfect story in its own right but a critical look at the next century.

some parts of the story seemed to drag on a bit, but it’s so dense with policy, concepts and vision that I consider it well worth the journey. had to bookmark multiple parts for further study. very enriching book and important to the Climate conversation overall.
I’ve casually been interested in tarot for years. I have read a lot of the books out there, taken a few classes and mostly “read” for myself. Recently I’ve been wanting to go deeper, to really understand and demystify the oracle of tarot. I know the power of the cards and for me, it was..
I wanted to like this book. Magic and Space, fun, right? But after spending 3/4 of the book dealing with just one part of the plot, I was just bored. Really all the build up could have been much quicker as it really didn’t add much to the climax or world building. If you like..
Being a Texan — I was a little wary that I would get over-acted Texas Drawwwl. Pleasantly surprised that there was no weird (haha – keep austin weird) accents. Enjoyed the story. A strong world/reality for urban fantasy, I think the characters are well-developed and I will be reading/listening to the next in the series…
I enjoyed the way this story slowly but steadily developed along with the protagonist. and good deeds are abundant. we kinda need that right mow
The premise of the book is fascinating and some of the information and ideas, especially in the earlier chapters, was quite compelling. But then it seemed to just ramble on, checking every environmentalist/ liberal fantasy and there wasn’t a particularly interesting plot.
as usual, it’s hard to imagine another author with the historical sweep of Kim Stanley Robinson. taking place over the course of the 40 years of the near future the book opens with a gut wrenching account of a man-made natural disaster. it’s never been easier to picture the near future impact of climate change…
Fair story, but everything happens to Charles. He does very little to direct the story. Characters are disposable. Unique concept though.
Very disappointed with this book. Kim Stanley Robinson can do much better. There is almost no plot and barely more vision. Other reviews have mentioned the lack of plot, but I was hoping the “science” parts would make up for it. They did not. This was a short story stretched to absurd lengths by minor..
