This was a heart wrenching book. Depression is an illness no matter what “just-cheerup” people might say. We have a difficult romance and acceptance. How do you love someone who often can’t love life? No need to say more about Joel Leslie, he is a genius.

I have read this book several times. To listen while I take my walks is even better.
I’ve listened to several John Pickett and Lady Fieldhurst mysteries and enjoyed them all. The narration is strong and the characters are relateable, even from a distance of centuries. I’m hoping that John, in particular, will mature into a stronger person as the series continues. Sooner or later, he needs to grow past his insecurities..

Loved it. Alice Winters is a new author for me and I’ll be happy to pick up further titles in audio. Joel Leslie doing what he does best – absolutely nailed both the sarcasm and humor of the characters and the suspense and tension in the story to make this a very entertaining listen.
