At first, I was so irritated by the narrator, but then I realized the voice was meant to be annoying based on the character. Many twists and turns in this novel. It keeps you on your toes.
Narration was taxing

At first, I was so irritated by the narrator, but then I realized the voice was meant to be annoying based on the character. Many twists and turns in this novel. It keeps you on your toes.
This book surprised me with its interesting storyline, detailed characters and beautiful writing. I laughed out loud so hard tears were streaming down my face during the driving lesson scene (and a few others too). Joel Leslie does a FANTASTIC job, as always. It was odd, at first, hearing one of my most loved narrators..
once you get use to the authors writing style these books become amazing. love the story telling and the adventure.
reads like a tabletop RPG adventure. quest and all . the 1st book established the party and some background, then dives into an adventure with some eldritch flavour. the 2nd book is more of a dungeon crawl with new party dynamics.
I read this book a while back and really enjoyed it. When I find a good book I will often search for the Audible book or look at the library for the audio book. Luckily I found it on Audible!
I have listened to the books in this series out of order and each one stands alone. John Pickett, a Bow Street Runner (Early British policeman) and is going through a bad time and wishes he was never born. He hits his head, blacks out and suddenly finds that no one knows who he is..
I kept waiting for something to happen. But nothing ever did. The misleading was so blatant that I found myself rolling my eyes ever so often. No connect to neither characters nor stories….
This has been in my Audible library for a while and I’m not sure why I haven’t listened before now. If friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, then childhood best friends-to-lovers is my kryptonite. The focus of the story isn’t really Israel and Sam’s relationship, that’s more of a secondary story however it’s hovering..
Although this was just a novella, I really enjoyed this quick story. Pickett being ever hard on himself makes a careless statement about his wife being better off without him ever being born, gets hit in the head and wakes up in an alternate reality… It’s a question I think many people wonder at times..
I have loved this book for a long time but I can’t say enough about Joel’s ability to bring real acting to his readings. You really just for get that its one voice and fall into the story.
