The context of the book is interesting at times, and boring in frequent places. What makes it excruciating to listen to though is the narrator. Her voice is grating and unpleasant when she is speaking naturally; when she breaks into her fake simpering Savannah southern Belle voice whenever she’s voicing Mary Lincoln, it’s absolutely nauseating…
