Fun listen, full of the irreverence I enjoy from the Benjamin Wallace books. Very enjoyable (< I apologize for the redundance, but Audible insisted I needed more words)
stay away from the book when all the main characters that you’ve learned to care for are dead at the end of the book in the last 5 minutes no thank you
This is just a another hard pass. The story is all over the place, it’s slow if you can even find a plot. The MC’s are YA and very naive. Also you have MC’s that are mentally unfit and desperately need to seek counseling.. Also I think Phil’s VA work does not fit this genre.
This was an amazing story and the execution was perfect. It’s right up there with amazing novels like Cradle by Will Wight and was even better than Underworld by Graham Thorne which I’ve reviewed top marks for. My only annoyance was the narrator continuously mispronoincing Kagehime. Every time he said it I was ripped out..
Totally disappointed. Maybe I expected too much. Too much talking about past events. Different narrator. Ending was flat – open ended.

I enjoyed this book. I would recommend it, some parts feel redundant. But I’d still recommend. The author does a good job making you care about root for his characters.
Having read dozens of post-apoc books I am always stoked to find a new take with great characters, and Slow Burn has both! The narration helps set the mood too. The main character has the emotional intelligence of a kid, but it works since the other characters are cognizant off that as well and his exploits..
