I couldn’t finish this book. The characters are constantly making stupid decisions and constantly running into people trying to kill them at every turn, on the first day of the lights out. The situations they find themselves in are not believable.
Author Sharkey provides a comprehensive look at the life and philosophical outlook of mass murderer, John List, an outlook that features devotion to God. Family, not so much. Narrator Compton does a satisfactory job, except for his tendency to misplace whole phrases when he fails to notice that there is a period lurking around the..
About 75% of this book is just the author reading the checklist that pilots used. Declan, Lev and Team Payne are headed out to take on the Vestrall. No romance and the F-bomb was used 31 times. As for the narration: Shawn Compton is a wonderful narrator for this series.
An excellent concept, abandoned super-starship, and well executed. Martelle is well-known and respected in this genre and this is a fine example. Major Declan Payne and his crew take on the responsibility to take the ship and fight the main enemy of humanity. Fun stuff!
