it was a very entertaining well written novel characters are very believable. Looking forward to book 2.
This is the third in the series I began reading over fifty years ago. I still find the books entertaining, but are no longer compelling.
Realized with this second book in a long series, that society has had a lot of changes. Less smoking and few if any pay phones remain.
The premise is interesting: what would happen if vampires got onto a submarine? The execution was… not as interesting. Opportunities to build dread were dulled by stale turns of phrase. No kidding, one paragraph included the phrase “it will work; it HAS to work!” and was immediately followed up with “it was their last, best..
I first read this book when published in 1969. though the story is outdated I still enjoyed it again. Moving on to the next..
I loved this book. Metcalf was my sixth grade teacher! Amazing story. He was a foreboding presence when I was 11 years old. Now with adult eyes, I see so much more; I can see through his eyes the experience that shaped him.

Extremely well written and well performedI strongly recommend this book to any individuals who have an interest in the Pacific war.
The story was written in, and takes place in, the 80’s, during the Cold War. It’s interesting hearing the tale from that decade and perspective. It’s a decent listen. I like when my “cheap horror fiction” teaches me things like how a submarine runs, what life is like for the men aboard, and new military..
