The author is going for a gritty Sin City type feeling, and it works well enough. The narrator helps a ton with this. The writing is serviceable, but edgy. Which is fine. However, it also drops some heavy ick every now and then. And the author has a real “men writing women” problem going on…

I don’t know why, I enjoy fantasy and litrpg, but this book just kept boring me. Sound booth theater is probably the only reason I powered through 2/3 of it. I was just too bored. I had to pull over and switch to a different book. Maybe it’s just not for me.
I loved every second of this book. I couldn’t wait to listen to more. Definitely inappropriate to listen to out loud with children around.

I expected this to be pretty low brow—but funny —and it is! I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns, which add to the humor. I’m also surprised that this book is more emotionally intelligent than the title and description led me to expect.
