I wish I knew this was going to be a video game. I used my credit based on reviews and specifically one that mentioned they loved Dresden and loved this. This is no Harry Dresden like novel. Now I know what “world building” means and I’ll avoid it. I adore sci-fi and some fantasy but..
Love dcc – but I think this is my fav book. This is where you start to understand the larger world. The cookbook is awesome!

There’s not a lot of tension in the combat anymore due to power creep with the main cast, but the main cast is also fun and they’re written consistently. Jeff Hays must be having an absolute ball with how he plays Chester.

This story is the reason I got obsessed with Deck Building litRPG and remains my insta-buy. It’s unique and in a modern setting with some mafia vibes. The lowkey romance is nice too. I’m glad I got into this series because the narrator nailed it for me.

The story is fine for what it is and so is most of the narration, but there are frequent, jarring and disruptive “effects” that kick you right out of the story. sometimes the special effects are so horrendous that the regular volume is three times louder than the “special” parts, so you either can’t hear..
