It was a promising concept, but the problems in this book (painfully bad dialogue, poor character development, insufferable MC, high stakes conflict being solved through massive exposition dumps, etc.) only gets worse as the series progresses. The first book is the least egregious in the series, but I can’t recommend any of it

Every conversation in this book feels so trite. It’s written like a DM’s first D&D campaign – a ridiculous amount of exposition, people having knowledge in the most convenient way possible, every conflict happening immediately followed by “that’s impossible!” followed by immediately figuring it out.
