Best book I have read on audible! I am grabbing the second book now! I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a book this much.
I came in to this as a big DCC fan and I have read and liked The Grinding my Dinniman, as well. I struggled with this one, though. I found it to be so slow starting off, despite it getting into the “action” pretty quickly. I found the character development to be non-existent. The story..
Love the characters and their interactions/dynamics, the subtle humors, the unexpected story plots that keeps me wanting to listen more. Great voice acting/narrating. Immediately bought the next book once I finished this. Excited that there are 8 books in this series!

Such an amazing series and the voice actor is just amazing ! Really helps you dive into the world excited to see what Carl and donut get into next!

Feels like I’m listening to a story that’s a mix between a spiritual successor to the Dungeon Crawler Carl and Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon series’, with less gore and devastation. Lots of familiar character profiles and shared language between this and other of Dinniman’s recent stories. It’s like having another pov in the same universe.
while it’s shorter than the rest of the novels to come, there’s something perfect about the journey and development that Carl and Donut go on here. it truly begins to show their maturation even more.
A poor Hispanic farmer and his se x worker sister are cruely oppressed by rich trigger happy children with earth government support. Take your politics and shove them right up your thruster, Matt. I listen to or read fiction for entertainment not your perceived moral superiority disguised as entertainment. Last book I buy of yours..
