This book blew my mind right up. It’s explosive-handling skills leveled up to 19! It deserves a celestial fanbox. Reward? 5-stars throughout. Can’t wait to start the next book
Imagine the apocalypse, a twisted game show, and a fever dream of sarcasm all having a baby. Then that baby grows up, grabs a cat in combat boots, and says, “Let’s crawl some dungeons.” Carl’s the kind of hero you can’t help but root for, he’s part “why me?” and half “fine, I’ll burn it..
What can I say that hasn’t already been said? I’ve put more hours into this series (audiobook versions, because Jeff Hays is some kind of audiobook narrating demigod who has ruined other narrators for me) than any other single book series, and I have zero regrets. Dinniman’s writing is engaging and often hilarious, his characters..
Whoever was responsible for Boxxy/Narrator rattling off all of Boxxy’s new tinkering inventions to Fizzy to the tune of the Major General patter song from The Pirates of Penzance … !
Starts out as a LOTR parody, then quickly morphs into a cartoonishly wholesome subversion of the high fantasy genre. The whole voice cast and production did a wonderful job bringing the adventure to life, and endearing me to the slimiest and lowliest of the traditionally evil fantasy races: Goblins.
Loved it, now I’m committed to the whole continuing series. Gaining achievements in Audible, it is that addictive.
