I had never read Matt Dinniman before, so this was my first and I really liked it. The AI manipulation angle is what got me the most. Both humans and AI are using each other and it blows up in everyone’s face. It touches on some really big themes like genocide and propaganda and it does it in a way that doesn’t feel preachy. And Roger reminded me so much of Baymax. He’s this caretaker figure but there’s so much more going on underneath and by the end you’re fully invested in him. He’s not rocky, but I’d say he’s a close second.
