Really enjoyed this story. Well written with plenty of suspense, mystery and intrigue with a bit of humor on the side. It pulls you in immediately, holds your complete attention and keeps you listening until the end.

This particular story is a YA/NA story given Jack’s age in this installment, even though the rest of the series is not. Even though this is Book 6 in the series and the first I have listened to it can absolutely be listened to as a standalone book, it’s a prequel to the other books in the series. I didn’t even realize this was Book 6 in the series until the blurb after the story was over describing the synopsis for Book 1. I do have to say if you have not listened to any other installments of the series like me the blurb at the end gives away a huge spoiler for one of the main characters in this book. A character I was hoping would be a regular in the series. Will it stop me from listening to the series? No, I’m looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

Really good cast of likable characters. Never judge a person by where they come from. You determine the type of person you will be not your circumstances. Aunt Hattie is one of those characters that has a lasting effect one everyone she touches. Jack, Chandler, Replacement and the rest are all really great characters. Really enjoyed Jack’s moral compass. His honesty, his sense of wrong & right, his manner and respect when dealing with people, his determination to do the right thing even if it wasn’t always the smart thing to do. .

Andrew Tell did a great job with the narration. He has one of those voices that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a smooth even pace. Really good character voices. His narration just pulls you into the story and brings the characters to life. So far Andrew Tell is the narrator for the rest of the series that is already on audio. Hopefully he will be the narrator for the whole series.
Very enjoyable.
