I had high hopes for this book based on the glowing reviews about its perspective on life and aging, and I was especially intrigued by the idea of the story being told entirely through letters. Unfortunately, I ended up very disappointed.
The main character was difficult to connect with, and the supporting characters never felt developed enough for me to become invested in them. There were aspects of this woman’s life that could have made for a compelling story, but experiencing it only through scattered snippets of correspondence over the span of a decade made the book feel slow and disengaging. I struggled to stay interested throughout.
That said, I did enjoy the full cast narration in the audiobook, and it definitely helped keep track of the many different characters and voices.
