This series started off great. Now the book seems to be about 70% plot setting and 30% action. I’m also not a fan of Carl suddenly wanting to save everyone including the NPCs. This series was like the Hunger Games on steroids but it just feels like it has lost its way now.

we went from almost constant action, violence, mayhem . war after conflict, on the verge of moving on to the next calamity, and poof a whole book where…what really did happen??? our hero dies cheats death by capture and we go on a tangent for a character that ultimately dies. and the title mortimer… where..

I’m so stoked about this series that I keep telling everybody I know who is into fantasy about DCC. Matt Dinniman is kiling it and Soundbooth brings it alive. Love it and hope it never ends!
The story and performance’s are GREAT! However, the main character does things that are EXTREMELY frustrating and stupid. These actions make the story maddening at times. These IDIOTIC actions make you question the character and the story. Having a smart character do such idiotic things harms the story and makes you question the main character…
I love the world building of this book series it’s incredible but the biggest problem I have with this book is that damn cat, why do people enjoy reading a book with a crappy character I mean for crying out loud the cat is the boss of the group but does nothing but shoot magic..

I listen to my audible books at work and this book got me a lot of looks from me bursting out laughing randomly! If you haven’t started this series yet you must check it out.

I get that the book has to be a certain length but at the same time there was so much fighting and filler in this book that I became disinterested halfway through wishing for it to end
