A lovely summation of a glimpse into the vibrant life of an elderly woman who happened to be going blind. Family, friendship, love. Parenthood. Regret. Friendship. A beautiful beautiful story that is a true slice of a life lived with grace and passion, with mistakes and virtues laid open for all to see. Wonderful.
Every character gets their own narrator in this story. It is a wonderful listen! The characters are great.
Sybil Van Antwerp is a retired lawyer and judge’s clerk, a mother, a sister and a friend. She practiced law at a time when women lawyers were scarce. We know her through her letters (she is proud of her penmanship) and emails: her opinions, loves, standards, aggravations, regrets and sorrows. The reader is with her..
This book is written in such a beautiful, compelling way. I found myself enthralled in Anastasia’s story. Cheering her on and picking up gems every step of the way. Truly inspiring. Truly captivating.
My own personal experiences make it impossible to say much other than I LOVED this book. Beautifully written and captivating. The character development was perfect and the pace was too. The narration is incredibly well done.
I love epistolary novels. This is an incredible example of the form. The characters are complex. The story is compelling. I can’t recommend this audiobook enough. Beautiful writing and narration. I’m going to read a paper copy so I can savor each letter.
The book reminded me of the play called “Love Letters” which was really two characters writing letters to one another. Interesting format, and well developed characters, especially Sybil Antwerp.
Grabbed my attention immediately and kept it throughout. Excellent storyline and character development. Nice little twists at the end to explain it all
