This is like listening to a very bad version of a brilliant Vera novel. Its even set in Cumbria. So many cliches I lost count.

While a mystery needs a few good red herrings, this one seemed to have nothing but misdirect. I found most characters totally unlikeable and none very interesting. The ending seemed to come out of nowhere, but that may be because I lost interest halfway through the book.

This could’ve been a great story at least for its framework, but the writer misses the opportunity by not knowing whether he should write historical fiction or erotic softcore. The reader rescues some points by her expressive narration

From the reviews I read I was expecting a very innovative account. It was very mundane.
I’ve listened to an hour, 3x, but I cannot tell you what is happening beyond a body on the beach. the narration is relatively monotone and has no different inflection for different characters. I had looked forward to this book, read great reviews, but it’s not for me.
The story was very intricate and any number of characters could have been the murderer.

The narrator’s voice is to soft. It is like a grandma reading Christmas stories for her grand kids. It was very distracting at first.
