Chuck’s harrowing escape after being shot down over German occupied France—and his fight to return to combat.
The good: Excellent writing. To be expected—2 stars as a baseline. The rest: Slower than molasses; uninteresting and shallow character development; and a ton of fluff.
My second book of Ronald Malfi’s after Bone White and I am very impressed by both. I really enjoyed the characters for the most part and the setting. I perceived the setting of a dying town in economic turmoil matched with the reveal of the villain, and how the villain operates, as a metaphor on..
The premise of this book fills many holes in books published decades after it. Its focus on the Committee of Public Safety is thorough and shows their machinations beyond just Robespierre. That being said, it is a product of its time and its illusions about both left- and right-wing extremism; while expected, it feels slightly..
The story was consistently entertaining, provided just the right amount of detail, and was easy to follow. The narration was equally excellent. I strongly recommend!
The story was not bad, however too much extra story lines and not enough for the true mystery. The narration was horrid, so bad I also considered not finishing, I did however but I will not try another one.

Only to have them dashed by T. Bagwell. It’s just a sad, sad, sad story. It started with killing corrupt nobles, okay. Then corrupt guards. But when the character just starts killing normal, innocent npcs, he totally lost me. It’s like a high school student going rogue. Too close to comfort for me.
