This story is a wonderful example of Italian to English writing. I cannot wait to hear more of Mancuso’s work. The personal stories and historical tales truly make plants feel like persons of this world in a way few other scientific publications manage, even when they speak of people and animals.

The author delights in highlighting a Hancock and S. Adams schism. I am glad to know some of the important mediations he achieved but still have a distaste for his dandy poses and lack of attention to his militia command at Newport. Like all of the leaders he had skills and deficits.
