One of the most unique and incredible books I have ever read. I can only say I am grateful I found it. You will be stunned by its honesty, its joy and its pain
I’m still thinking about Sybil Van Antwerp, a fictional character, but so real in my mind after listening to her letters.
I loved the use of different voices to provide context and emotion for different letters. The lifetime in letters is intriguing.
Loved the entire story! Took a minute to fall i to rhythm with it, but then couldn’t put it down. Now I want to go write a letter!
Great voice performances. Sweet and funny dialogue. Story gets a little outrageous at times, but that’s part of the fun.
The story line starts out with one wondering where this is headed. As it slowly unfolds. I was gripped by the correspondences and found the writing beautiful. I really enjoyed this book.
The Correspondent is a wonderful story examining the complexity of human relationships. Things may not always be known by what is observed on the surface.
I really thought I wasn’t going to like the letter format of this book but I was so wrong. The way in which things are revealed through the letters is fascinating. This book inspired me to write (and actually mail) the first letter I have written in over 25 years. And then I wrote another..
Well-written, well-structured. For me Sybil starts off quite an unsympathetic character and the book even felt quite bland, but as the narrative progresses, the characters become more defined and the letters take on a shape. There’s a sense of foreboding that grows and made me feel anxious. Very moving indeed.
Human growth in last decades of life, complex main character. Self-forgiveness as a way out of isolation.
